Diverticulitis is generally known as a frequent ailment of the intestine. It is an age related disorder and generally can be found in people aged above sixty years. This ailment or disease results in the formation of sacs or vesicles in the intestinal area. Initially they are not painful and people often do not even come across the formation of such sacs. But there are cases where they tend to cause considerable pain and discomfort to the individual suffering from this condition. The reason as to why there is the build up of such sacs in the body can be attributed to the formation of gas and excessive constipation. The build up of gas in the intestinal are raises the pressure in the region leading to the formation of such sacs.

This is so because the malfunctioning bowel of the individual causes the excreta of the individual to get trapped in the sacs. This makes the conditions in the abdominal area very toxic and also affects the process of absorption of essential nutrients. They may also become feverish and suffer from bleeding of the rectum.

As the ailment results from the intake of improper food products, the change of the person's diet to a more healthy one can be very helpful. One can take a variety of steps to ensure a proper diet like :

1. The amount of fibrous food intake can be increased significantly. This helps in cleansing of the bowel and improves bowel functioning. Although intake of excess fibre should be avoided.
2. The person should eat a lot of green vegetables and fruits. This helps in providing the essential nutrients to the body. Otherwise lost to the malfunctioning absorption system.
3. The intake of meat products kept over a long period of time in storage should be avoided. They contain highly saturated fats that are harmful.
4. One should increase the daily intake of water. The level of hydration in the body also helps significantly to recover from the condition.
5. The adherence to a specific exercise regime also helps considerably to improve constipation.
